after some thinking i think we need to speak up about it. yesterday @dualipa posted our fanart to promote her album, without credit, on insta&twitter. first of all i want to say im not saying this for people to hate on her, i absolutely love her music and it makes me happy that +
she saw the drawing and liked it. i don’t even think she chose to use the picture to promote it, i’m guessing her team did. first of all we want to thank everyone who tagged us and asked for credit under the post, we really appreciate all your comments😭❤️+
i think the first issue here was to use the image to promote the album without permission and credit. any other work with commercial purpose would have been payed, but they posted it without our permission and even cropping out the name on insta. +
in our case, art is not our main source of income yet since we’re still uni students. we also consider we already have a big following, but i can only imagine how an artist with small exposure who lives off their art would feel in a situation like this, where their work is used +
without any compensation or credit. if there was proper credit (not only the watermark, a proper tag or link to the artist) the artist’s work would have been at least recognized, and they would have gained exposure. that would be the bare minimum.
again, i’m not trying to gain anything out of this, just to bring attention to an struggle that the art community has been fighting since forever. artists should be rewarded and recognised for their work. +
“i just found it on the internet” is the funniest excuse to me, like ofc you did, but do you think it fell from the sky? machines don’t draw, everytime you come across a drawing on the internet there is a person behind it who did it.
i want to repeat the least of my intentions is for this to cause hate for dua. i’m happy that a person i admire saw my fanart of her and liked it, but i think this goes beyond that. please, always CREDIT THE ARTIST!
