EXAMS 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT

Ofqual: Schools are instructed to provide a grade for each pupil which reflects a ‘fair, reasonable and carefully considered judgement’ of their most likely grade had they ‘sat their exams this summer and completed any non-exam assessment.’

Lots to consider what works/what's wrong with the current assessment system, but this is (currently) good news for teachers and pupils.

What will be interesting is league tables and Ofsted throughout 2020/21. Will all schools give themselves better results?
It reinforces that everyone is at a different start/endpoints E.g. winners and losers. Examinations albeit useful, are a societal construct for selection.
I suspect the complaints process will carry on, albeit it a little busier in August, but September transition to universities will be interesting.
Schools have been assisting universities with selection for years. Our qualifications are designed to help admissions tutors and prepare students for onward study. Our curriculum reflects the qualifications and our pedagogy reflects the curriculum.

This could be our one opportunity to move away from one-off examination performance to a more broad and balanced portfolio of skills...
