Just around my bedtime yesterday I got notifications of an unprovoked invective-filled attack by the Director General of Nigeria's Consumer Protection Commission, Tunde Irukera @TundeIrukera, over a story a wrote nine years ago for my former employer, NEXT Newspaper.

THREAD
Initially, I decided to ignore him but as you can see from the screenshots above he continued attacking me until this morning.

Since NEXT has been rested and Tunde made it clear that I was the sole object of his attack and not my supervisors who approved the story then ...
... I have taken it upon myself to respond. Tunde's intention was to force me to respond in the gutter-like manner of his attack but I have chosen to be the bigger person and be civil in my response.
The story in question was a series about how prominent Nigerians, including a former Head of State, lawyers, and govt officials sided with the multinational pharma company Pfizer at the expense of 200 kids in Kano, many of who were killed or maimed for life following a botched...
...clinical trial for the Meningitis medication, Trovan.
The story was supervised by my Managing Editor at the time @KadariaAhmed. The story particularly revealed how @TundeIrukera and other lawyers cashed out without making sure those who were used for Pfizer's unethical clinical trial of 1996 were adequately compensated.
In fact, it was one of my proudest stories to date. Maybe Tunde attacked me thinking because NEXT is no more, I do not have copies of the story. Unfortunately for him, I do. And I have decided to attach them here for Nigerians to read and decide what to make of it.
I am happy I played my role as a journalist by siding with the poor and abused children of Kano, many of who have not been compensated for their loss and the bodily harm done to them by Pfizer and their Nigerian collaborators.
The story was written more than nine years ago but Tunde has not rested since then. I pray he finds peace.
