i can’t believe some people still accuse mafuyu of using uenoyama as a rebound. ngl that shit hurts, because if you think that for a second then you don’t know mafuyu.

(a long-ass thread bc i’m tired of this shit) https://twitter.com/luaxnee/status/1245711788311744512
mafuyu obviously has experience with love and affection because of his previous relationship with yuki, but that was like something that grew as they also grew up. mafuyu met uenoyama and was touched by uenoyama’s personality. it’s a different kind of love from yuki’s.
i think a lot of people get the rebound idea because uenoyama is also a talented guitarist, but let me tell you that shit is NOT a rebound. it seemed fast, but it wasn’t like mafuyu was trying to rush anything. he just happened to like uenoyama.
i think my favorite thing about their relationship is that before mafuyu met uenoyama, he carried the broken guitar around as a reminder of yuki’s death. it was constantly weighing him down, and he couldn’t play because it was broken and he didn’t know how to play.
i feel like he blamed himself and also music as the causes of yuki’s suicide. when uenoyama fixed the guitar strings, he taught him how to change them, but also how to TUNE them.
now, i don’t really know much about music, but i know uenoyama explained that when you recently change the strings, you constantly have to keep tuning them, which i (because i like to overanalyze everything) take that as a metaphor for their relationship.
being with uenoyama is “fixing” mafuyu’s “strings.” But they’re going to have to constantly work on their relationship because of misunderstandings (recall the jealousy scene in chapter 18... which murdered my ass, i should add).
uenoyama also taught mafuyu how to play the guitar, which gave mafuyu a way to remember yuki without it being a weight that’s just there, but rather a weight that he uses to express his feelings.
in other words, uenoyama showed mafuyu that music could be used to heal his wounds rather than just serve as a harsh reminder of the past.
just because mafuyu loved yuki very much for a long time it doesn’t mean that he’s not capable of love toward another person or that this love will always be a comparison to that of yuki’s.
yuki was his first love, his childhood friend, but in the end he’s what broke mafuyu. uenoyama knows this. he doesn’t make mafuyu talk about his past. he doesn’t get angry that mafuyu sometimes mourns yuki.
he gets mad when mafuyu tries to mourn by himself (like in chapter 23). he doesn’t need mafuyu to explain himself, but uenoyama doesn’t want mafuyu to go through all of that alone because he doesn’t have to.
he’s there to help him. it might be his first attempt at a relationship and he’s always "gay panicking", but he’s trying and i think that just saying that mafuyu is using him as a rebound is literally smearing not just mafuyu’s name, but uenoyama’s too & i will not stand for it.
