Unsurprising drops in ED attendance in the Syndromic Surveillance System operated by
PHE https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/877600/EDSSSBulletin2020wk13.pdf.pdf
Worrying however that ischaemia & other cardiac attendances are down so much – suggests that people are holding back conditions that should go to A&E. Calls for chest pain to the ambulance service are up and there is more MI in GP out of hours which may hint at this
GI attendances are way down – all that hand washing might be working but again a concern that there are some people delaying attending
Respiratory calls to ambulances are what you might expect
Other illnesses are available & the worry is what is being missed or stored up. There will be a similar issue with electives but we will have to wait to assess that
Probably need to find some way to encourage people to seek help when its really necessary without removing the respite that the drop off in more minor cases will provide
