Within 4 months of marriage, my ex had told me to pack my shit and go to back to my mother. I was already pregnant. My mother was in a different country. If ever a man says this, take it as a sign of his refusal to recognise your right to your home. And leave that marriage ASAP.

I say this because it wasn’t a one-off. We tend to brush these things off thinking “ppl say things they don’t mean” or esp “men get angry & say things they don’t mean”. But this is v much about the willingness to undermine ur rights. 9yrs later I was still hearing the same thing.
