(thread) Trump said yesterday that he doesn't think it's fair so many people can't afford health insurance but also do not qualify for Medicare, implying that he may have plans to expand medicare.
Of course he is probably just saying these things to help his re-election as he said similar things in 2016. The problem with this is that he did make this implication, while the presumptive democratic nominee, Biden, is still very hesitant to adopt to a single payer system
Biden's plan will not change much about our health care system, and people will still be just as underinsured and in debt as they are now. So to those people when they hear Trump implying that he plans on expanding medicare, regardless if true, the decision is clear to them
If it's not obvious, of course I condem Trump and especially due to his response with COVID there is ABSOLUTELY NO ETHICAL REASON TO SUPPORT HIM. The problem we have now is that there is a large percentage of Americans who have no health insurance, or are underinsured, who cannot
pay for the health care they need. To these people they are seeing a democratic candidate who isn't really offering change, and a republic one who is implying an expansion of medicare.
Whether it's true or not is irrelevant as these Americans are going to see this choice as life or death. Regardless of every terrible thing Trump is done, many Americans are going to have the mindset that they might not last another 4 years uninsured, and Trump is
atleast offering hope. My conclusion is that if Joe Biden is the nominee and he does not adapt to a more progressive health care plan, we will see a landslide victory for Trump in November possibly even winning totally blue states like California.
Democrats made the mistake in 2016 of not taking Trump seriously, and offering a "safe" centrist candidate which led to him winning the election. This will absolutely happen again this year if the Democratic party does not change
The solution to this is of course one of two things, either a progressive candidate needs to be the nominee instead of Biden, or Biden needs to be forced to adopt progressive policy.
If democrat's fail to do one of those two things, we will have 4 more years of Trump
