British politics has not changed completely but competence now matters much, much more.
Ideological and culture wars will continue but the dividing line is now between competence and incompetence: life and death.

Boris Johnson has never feared an ideological battle but humour & wit are less effective defences in a battle about competence. Now he may face something different: the methodical & forensic cross-examination of his handling of covid-19 by a former Director of Public Prosecution.
