Thread: I’m an abled person, I have a disabled son + my experience is as his mom.
Many disabled people live in poverty + are rarely a priority when it comes to healthcare, education or employment. It all hit home for me today during @ShaneLSimpson press conference. 1/7 #COVIDBC
Our provincial government continues to be fantastic navigating us through this #Pandemic #DrBonnieHenry + @adriandix are the calm I need in this storm. I feel fortunate to live in BC but today’s announcement was a disappointment for me. 2/7 #COVID19DisabilityBC #COVIDBC
I desperately wanted @ShaneLSimpson to look in the camera + confidently say to me, Beckett’s mom “people with disabilities matter + this government will do WHATEVER it takes to keep you safe + alive”. Many abled people take this for granted, #PWD don’t. 3/7 #COVID19DisabilityBC
I’m not supposed to complain, like many other parents I have been trained to be grateful, otherwise we live in unspoken fear of losing what little we already have for our kids with disabilities. 4/7 #COVID19DisabilityBC #COVIDBC #COVIDCanada
Please, listen to disabled people, homeshare providers, parents, siblings + caregivers. 💛 It is where you will find reality. Today felt like a slap in the face for a lot of people. We need to do better, before it is too late. 5/7 #COVID19DisabilityBC #COVIDBC #COVIDCanada
My son is only twelve years old but during Minister Simpson’s press conference, I envisioned Beckett as an adult. I feel worried for his future as a disabled person. 6/7 #COVID19DisabilityBC #COVIDBC #COVIDCanada
