So I’m gonna do a thread doing one sentence reviews of every Sonic game that I consider mainline (might do spinoffs another time), just for the hell of it. Because why not?
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991):
I love Green Hill, but did Sonic Team forget to design the rest of the game?

Sonic Heroes:
If there’s one thing I DON’T wanna do in a Sonic game, it’s beat the same thing 4 times in a row just to play one mediocre final boss (albeit with a banger final boss track).

Shadow the Hedgehog:
I don’t actually mind the silly grimdark tone, but fuck me, and here I thought I had to play Sonic Heroes a lot of times.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006):
Every single aspect of this game is just BARELY bad enough for it to be considered a trash fire mess, which it is, but man is there a ton of lost potential here.

Sonic Unleashed:
I love almost every boost level across the entire franchise, and I actually don’t mind the werehog, so of course, I love this one.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4:
Since I’m counting both episodes as one game, it’s not getting terrible marks thanks to episode 2, but make no mistake, this is still a very clunky experience.

Sonic Colors:
It’s a fun romp that recreates the spirit of the genesis classics without mimicking them, so how could I dislike it?

Sonic Generations:
Between the most refined version of the boost gameplay, a competent version of the classic 2d gameplay, and a collection of levels unrivaled in quality in terms of the 3d games, there’s a reason Sonic Generations is my favorite game of all time.

Sonic Lost World:
It’s like the Adventure games, but with half the speed, a quarter of the level design quality, and none of the story.

Sonic Mania:
I don’t even need to tell you that this is the pinnacle of 2d Sonic, especially with the Plus DLC, and the best part is that there’s so much more potential for a sequel.

Sonic Forces:
This is the Sonic Heroes of the boost formula, in that it has everything that made the last few games successful but it adds a bunch of dumb nonsense that brings the whole experience down.

I hope y’all enjoyed this thread, especially since, in searching for images for each one-sentence review, I came across THIS wonder.
Like I said, I might do the spinoffs, like the handhelds and storybook games, some other time. Would y’all be interested?
