We have completed another intermediate update to our UV #PPE decontamination project - with longer recommended times. In the intervening week there has been a flurry of activity. Weve worked w 3 different labs to update/validate our calcs. thx @Prof_Lowe https://github.com/TheoryDivision/covid19_biosafety_cabinet/blob/master/PPE_UV_Manuscript.pdf https://twitter.com/CancerConnector/status/1243548102428184576
The original dose discussed is a surface decontamination dose, and a larger dose is required for porous #PPE -- see CDC report, and our update recommending longer #UVGI exposure. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/decontamination-reuse-respirators.html
Stay tuned for filtration/fit testing after the recommended doses in our preprint, as well as biological validation of the higher doses from @TanushJagdish -- we hope to have the whole story by Monday. In the meantime, also worth checking out http://n95decon.org
A big change is that we have measured UV fluence at a number of heights throughout the BSC, and plotted time to achieve recommended doses. h/t @ProfArmani #COVID19 #PPEshortage
Before we got trolled on the physics we’re aware it’s not perfectly inverse square given the linear source, but it’s close ;)
