The humbling and inspiring world of #NurseStatues and some of the stories behind them.

This 5.5' bronze sculpture of a nurse was created by Art Moses in 2001 and dedicated to the graduates of #SpringfieldHospitalNursingSchool in Springfield, MA.

The Vietnam Women's Memorial dedicated in 1993 is part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Washington Mall. The bronze statue by sculptor Glenna Goodacre depicts three women, one tending a wounded soldier, in honor of the 10,000 women who served in Vietnam.

The Healing Touch, located at the Mayo/Fransciscan Clinic in LaCrosse, WI, was dedicated in 2014. It was carved in soapstone by a member of the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe in traditional style. (3)

#Vancouver is perhaps city with the most #NurseStatues. In 1929, Joseph Francis Watson sculpted three 11-foot tall terra cotta statues of a nursing sister from WWI, known as #TheRheaSisters. Fiberglass replicas have graced three corners of a newer building there since 1989. (4)

#NunsOfTheBattlefield can be viewed in DC. Sculpted by Irish artist Jacob Connor in 1924, it commemorates the 600 nuns who cared for the wounded of both sides during the American Civil War.
