Happy Birthday Martha!
I kind of wanna talk about my thoughts about Martha's birthday letter, so I made this thread but..

I think everyone pretty much has the same conclusion, so you can ignore this but please let me ramble cuz I'm heartbroken

Assuming that the sender of this letter is Martha, what we can take from this letter is:

1. Baron invited her to join the (manor's) game in exchange for a reward which would help her problem

2. Under the condition Martha is given a new identity and background

3. Something tragedic happened to Baron's family

4. Martha doesn't wanna trouble a certain someone

5. From the way she signed off, the two have been talking for a long time + Martha keeps her identity hidden?

So onto point number 1, who exactly is Baron DeRoss?

Well, I'd like to bring someone up which is Burke aka Mad Eyes. His description basically says that he works as an architect in the Oletus manor. And guess who the employer is?

Dennis DeRoss

Although I do not know in which position Baron DeRoss is in the DeRoss family... the DeRoss family is made out of a young married couple + children and...

Connecting to point 3, one of Burke's deductions said that "they took everyone, including the children"...

Hm... in bonbon's character introduction (backstory) video it shows him attacking children so... hm.. possibly he was the cause of the "tragedy"?

But let's put it aside and discuss: Who is Martha Behamfil? Is she really one of the leaders of the game? Is 'Martha Behamfil' an identity constructed by Baron for Martha?

You see, in IDV some characters have quotations in their title. In the English version that's Ann and Luka (if I'm not wrong)

But yesterday I saw a very very... interesting tweet on my TL...

Who would have thought that,,, Kreacher was a part of this trend too?

Obviously unless you have switched the language before you've never noticed but in most languages, Kreacher's title is Thief (pic 1 in Japanese) but,,, in the Chinese version it's "Philanthropist" (pic 2)

What is a philantrophist?

If you read the definition then you'd see that it completely falls in line with Kreacher's backstory as he runs an (abusive) orphanage.

Is that why it's in quotations? Because he thinks that he's contributing to a good cause when he's not?

If we take this into account, then the fact that Luka's prisoner title is in quotations also kinda implies that he was never really a prisoner in the first place
(may be cuz he refuses to admit he's one, or he didn't actually do anything wrong but hey that's for another time)

Why am I talking about this?

Well... remember how Martha's title is Coordinator?

Guess what it means

But on other languages it translates to "Air Force" (which is true if you look at her backstory)

But both aren't in quotations... so Hm.... what if her backstory was indeed true? Or... at least a part of her backstory is? If so, to what extent??

You see, the reason why I can't exactly put my finger on this letter because it's... very ambiguous...

Because if we assume that the sender is Martha, then it means that she /knew/ about the incident that happened with Burke and Bonbon,,, but why exactly would she know...?

As for Martha's motive, it's probably easy to guess but..

Her character intro did says that she wants to fly her own airplane (but needs money / a sponsor to finance her) So yes it's money

Also point number 4??

I think that's referring to Henry? I'm not so sure but that's the only name I could think of since he's the only one present in her backstory (and she seems reluctant to involve him so)

Ngl tho that's what I got so far but... if anyone's willing to give me a translated version of the Chinese letter since it's the most accurate (we all know english translations from NE sucks) pls hmu

tl;dr for now is I think Martha is still the Martha we know (from the air force), but she may have some... connections to the owner of the manor and... that she probably plays a bigger role than we think she does?

Heck she's even a reward character for recharging echoes

I thought Emma and Martha are always together cuz Martha shares the same name as Emma's mom so it's kinda cute and all but www is it also cuz both of them are pivotal characters in the story?

Wait haha didn't Martha get like multiple skins which lores basically involves her wanting to kill / killing other ppl

So I found a translated version of her letter which is... waaaay more better than the ingame translation

Hm... reading this translation gives me different thoughts because:

In game says "particular business" but in this translation it says "tying up the loose ends of the last botched job" making it hard for her to "participate" despite the "reward"

"last botched job"

The word last caught my interest because?? hm... does that mean she has been doing this thing for a long time?? and botched... what did she mess up...??

You know what if you wanna talk something that's messed up? It's her final deduction where an plane crashed because of a misfired signal... (Tbh we don't know who it is but most of the fandom agrees it's Henry... I myself am not sure but I like both interpretations!)

Assuming that's the job she's talking about then... what if that's done on purpose-

If that's the case then it'd make so much sense for her to want a new identity??

Hm... come to think of it...

Her character introduction speaks that she went to the manor for the sake of money... but her deductions imply nothing about it?? In fact she's already building her own plane with Henry

Going back to the quotations thing I pointed out... I wonder if the reason both titles coordinator and air force soldier aren't in quotation marks is because:

1. Both roles do apply to her so what was forged was something else

or

2. Her airforce soldier role was forged but because the owner of the manor was the one who created this identity of her... to enforce this as if it's her true identity, quotation marks aren't given...

I wanted to say that at least her name must be fake since she hid it in the letter.. but then again her deduction nodes all directly mention her first names so... Hm...

Huhu feel free to drop your thoughts below because like most of my threads, these aren't proper analysis threads and more of rambling about my feelings and thoughts so these aren't definitely true!
