I don’t know if it’s just because of disaster-fatigue but I’m curious why there aren’t as many selfies with surgical masks now with COVID like there were with our smoke masks from the fires?

Is it because we wanted the outside world to know what was going on?
It feels like if it was about performance of morality we should be doing it more in the COVID times because it impacts others.

So maybe it’s not that.

We were fundraising in a fire crisis, with this less so. Maybe it was all marketing that to raise more funds.
Weird how differently we’ve tackled both disasters so closely together.

I think the bulk of the work being done by volunteers is a huge part of our fire response. Plus it feels distinctly Australian.

COVID is very coded as foreign.

Can’t really figure it out nicely.
