1. There’s something eerie about a pandemic… it’s ability to make us reduce humans into mere numbers. I wake up each morning & check the number of people who’ve tested positive and those who passed. “600 deaths today,” I mutter and sip my cup of morning coffee,
2. as if It wasn’t human souls that passed… as if the lives of hundreds more haven’t just shattered... I’m grateful that this is how our brains function, that we have the ability to process such numbers without letting it debilitate us…
3. w/o making us ask why most days our lives are pathetically meaningless or why our pursuits are so empty while our lives are so brief. how would we ever make it through our days?... Almost every meaning we ascribe to a good and meaningful life loses sense
4. as soon as we're faced with sickness and death. Success, fame, status … all of it absurd. The only real & meaningful thing I’ve ever managed to find about life & death was mostly hidden in plain sight, in proverbs and cliches:
5. LOVE is the only real thing in this world. It’s almost embarrassing to say, unless you’re a dull poet or an untidy hippie. But its the simplest and deepest of truths … if you're able to love, if you have loved, if you’ve been loved … all else is extra.
