I'm boosting this thread since a lot of hard-lefties (including myself for quite a while) thought quite highly of Jeremy Corbyn. I don't agree with all of the examples since some of these are criticisms of the Israeli government. However enough of it is true as to be sufficient/1 https://twitter.com/daverich1/status/1245289597044699136
to damn Corbyn in the eyes of anyone who wants to seriously fight against anti-semitism. Associating with literal Holocaust deniers is beyond the pale. Absolutely grotesque. Playing into Jewish banker stereotypes, insinuating Jews who are *born in the UK* somehow can't be /2
authentically British, insinuating that Israel secretly controls the actions of the United States, and associating with Holocaust deniers would seem to imply that Corbyn's problem is with the Jews, not to stand against authoritarians who engage in apartheid like Netanyahu/3
and to be clear I am not someone who has great love for the state of Israel. But claiming Israel controls the US's actions is an antisemitic conspiracy theory - even hard tankies acknowledge that. Standing against Israeli apartheid is a necessary thing but it looks increasingly/4
like that was not what Corbyn was doing. He pretended towards a nobler goal while pulling the wool over the eyes of people who wanted to believe he was better, while cavorting with Holocaust deniers. Either he's stupid or he had mal-intent all along, and at some point there /5
stops being a material difference in outcome. This isn't about Corbyn attacking Israel or Netanyahu because if it was just that it wouldn't be enough to make the case of his anti-semitism. But it isn't just that. /6
I have lurked on Twitter for an entire year before officially joining and in that time people who were my faves in the left and the socialists have been extremely disappointing. For the UK it was Corbyn and for the US it has been Bernie. I really wanted to believe that these /7
men were who they said they were. Finally I'm grateful to Mikey Franklin for RTing this thread, without which I probably would have continued to believe the best of Corbyn./8
