this whole experience of self-isolation/social distancing is by definition culture shock. although it might not be as intense as a new country, etc it still sucks. so for anyone else who’s struggling as much as i know i have here’s some tips that might help
i’ll just start by defining culture shock for anyone who doesn’t know what it is. it’s essentially the shock that comes with a new way of life, new surroundings, attitudes, etc. it can cause any thing from slight discomfort and disorientation to depression.
1/? the biggest tip i can give is to not isolate yourself from others. if you try your hardest to talk to people, your family, friends, whoever it’ll make things better. they’re going through the same stuff you are and in general it can make the time go by
2/? the next big tip i can give is try not to compare and dwell on the past. it’s an understatement to say thing suck rn. but all we can do is to go on to the next day, when we think about how things were before this it just makes it harder.
3/? i know i already said my ‘biggest’ tip but for real the small things are what will help you adapt the most. create a routine and structure, especially with online classes. find something different to do. change always starts with the small things in life
in general try to keep a positive attitude and make sure you’re reaching out to your friends. we’re all going through this, and it’s best to do it together. i’ll add to this thread whenever i think of more stuff but for now that’s what i got
