I'll never understand why the @TurnAMC fandom overlooks MaryW's "he has something you want" insistence that Anna should go screw Known Local Psycho & makes no attempt to help her husband on her own.

People out here like OMG THEY'RE LESBIANS! No they ain't, fam. & while I'm usually ship & let ship it bothers me that y'all out here wanting to turn this sour petty woman into a woke angel & can't even address her flaws.

Even before their affair, she's there making snide remarks at Anna about a wife having children etc etc. & yeah I super get her salt when they DO have an affair--that's legit! By all means man, be mad--but like

--it isn't even talked about (without slamming Anna for some reason) the inherent toxic attitude Mary is wrapped in by blaming Anna & not her husband, who himself was taking advantage of Anna in the first place.

And no, Mary never was a patriot. She didn't believe in the cause. She believed in her husband which--that's super admirable! Good! Lean into that, girl. But y'all don't get it twisted. In fact--

That makes her more interesting as a character. I loved 90% of her in S4, and I'll stand by that. It just bothers me that folks are trying to make her this woke angel when her core personality ISN'T THAT. And here's why that rustles my jimmies:

1. She literally throws Anna under the bus at almost every opportunity even when the affair is long over & her husband is still being a sack of dicks. She is a condescending, sour & petty woman, & would rather emotionally manipulate someone into bedding--

--a known psychotic nutcase to save her shitty adulterer husband rather than making any attempts herself. That is the level of disregard she has for Anna. They. Are. Not. Lesbians. Karen. Stop being okay with this toxic shit.

And 2. Not every woman is a Sister against the Patriarchy, y'all. Having blinders to women in media who are clearly wrapped up in it ain't gonna help you see this shit for what it is IRL. Some women are going to be super toxic--

--& just as invested in that cultural cesspit as many men. Mind, I'm not here to demonize Mary. She's caught up in that just as much as Anna--but she uses it as an excuse to be petty & ugly as a person & is fine with remaining in the role she's in.

Additionally, she has no qualms w/ perpetuating that mess, especially if it means maintaining her own social status. It's fine if you wish she was written better, but frankly, her character is consistent and makes sense--

--& the only bad thing about it is it was unnecessary to pit her against Anna. But fuck me if that isn't how many women act even today, & if you're gonna make her into a woke lesbian queen you may as well make a new OC and start an AU, because that ain't her.

I wanted to like her so bad in S4, but couldn't. & it's fine you like her. Just... be willing to admit that she did what she did. Be willing to admit that she is wrapped in very toxic behaviors and did some really shitty things.

Before anyone @'s me like ANNA DID BAD THINGS TOO! Yeah fam I know, this thread ain't about her but I'll be glad to rant. But now? This is about how no one wants to admit their fave is fine with someone they don't like getting raped. /END RANT
