/ Every great moment brings forward heroes and heroines. In World War 2, they stormed the beaches at Normandy. Today, they are proving their brilliance under life or death pressure at our hospitals. I’d like to share one such story of my friend’s wife — anonymously.
/ Our heroine’s clinical specialty is cardiac critical care, so she is accustomed to volatile, uncertain, high stakes situations (i.e., people quickly dying in front of her due to heart and multiple organ failure).
/ Our heroine has done a phenomenal job of scaling that cool-headed decision-making to a hospital-system wide level (setting new ICUs, re-deploying hundreds of doctors outside their core specialty, re-allocating sick doctors to remote work, facilitating procurement of PPE etc).
/ Our heroine is saving healthcare provider and patient lives. It’s extremely impressive. And managing to be a good and loving mom throughout it all (her husband’s precise words).

My fellow Americans, heroes and heroines are among us. Have hope.
