Getting a good pet used to be nearly impossible unless you got lucky and found nice people with good pets willing to hatch. Training was obnoxiously tedious, because mega snacks used to be super rare before CPS/EMPs dropped, and people benefited from Double Gardening Seeds.
Hatching kiosk came out and finally incentivized people to share their pets with others. Fixed the biggest problem, but no part of the pet training process is fun IMO. Even when you get your perfect pet, it's mostly a relief that you don't have to do more of it.
Drastically raising hatching prices doesn't incentivize people to use the hatchery, unless the 2 people would mutually benefit from it (which is unlikely). Not everybody actively pet trains, so it won't really solve how easy it is to stockpile huge amounts of gold.
All I know, is that if I was a new player and started after this update went live, I'd ignore the pet system even with how OP pets are. Can't hatch in the hatchery a first gen piggle or school pet. Hatching Kiosk is too expensive until late game.
Worst part is that I can't get tons of mega snacks/gold as easily as Veteran players, since I can't benefit from double seeds from double gardening like people used to.
I'd just use a pet that I liked the looks of, and maybe gave a useful spell. But many of the people who benefited from cheaper hatching prices+double gardening etc. have good pets will judge those without good pets at higher levels, especially in group content.
I honestly just think that these pet changes will create a huge divide between veteran and new players (ironic since FTUE is a big emphasis). Some people will be nice, and can maybe help a bit, but it doesn't help with how tedious pets are as a whole.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk about Wizard101 pets, and sorry for the tweet spam. I just wish pets were purely (or at least mostly) cosmetic like they are in many games and not a piece of gear with way too much RNG involved.
