My message to parents during #remotelearning...

1. Remote ≠ Online. It’s okay to let a teacher know that you don’t have the tech capacity for kids to do much/any online work. This is new for all of us.
2. Will the kids fall behind? No. Every child is affected. Every teacher is affected. Kids are more resilient than we think. This is new for all of us.
3. What if we don’t have the time or skills necessary to fully support our child(ren)? Talk to us. Teachers are and have always been your partner in the education of children. This style of partnership, however, is new for all of us.
4. There are plenty of natural learning opportunities at home and you, as parents, are/were the first teachers in the life of your child(ren). So, maybe this part isn’t new for all of us.
5. We are collectively figuring out a whole new way to support kids. You might feel like you did as a new parent. We might feel like we did as first-year teachers. Let’s all remember that this is new for all of us.
I’m proud of my @BCTF colleagues for being willing to jump in and find new ways to do our job. It might be worth acknowledging that “Maslow before Bloom” isn’t new for us. Now is the time to amp up that way of thinking. #bced @DoucetArmand @Rob_Fleming @vsta392
