I don’t think there is one specific theological claim that always has been made by Christians throughout its history. In other words, I’m not so sure there is a theological common denominator of Christianity. 1/6
I certainly don’t think orthodoxy is even close to satisfactory in encapsulating Christianity. Furthermore, I’m not sure the simple claim that Jesus is the Christ is one made by all Christians throughout its history. 2/6
I’m a bit more inclined to say perhaps the sacraments of the eucharist and baptism are a more common denominator. However, the Quakers and some other traditions through a wrench in that possibility. 3/6
Needless to say, I think the only thing all Christians have claimed throughout its history is they have considered themselves Christians. 4/6
That seems rather unsatisfactory, but it seems like that’s all we’ve got. But we also probably shouldn’t be surprised a plural religion can’t be boiled down to one claim. 5/6
There seems like there might be some sort of universal theological claim of Christianity. Could it have lasted this long and across as many cultures as it has without one? Yet, I am simply unable to pin down what it might be. 6/6
