There's one little sparrow been a standout on our balcony this week.

Yesterday he did a Michael Jackson dance with his tail up, like some kind of lekking behaviour, and today he's getting Bolshy at the doves and marking out territory. Chased him into the lily pily.

Have never seen such complex social behaviour from a sparrow until this individual.

Most of them just flock in for our left-over bread crumbs, taking turns to dip in or flying off with a chunky bit. Mostly they share the space. This one fella acts like he owns the joint.

Here is a close up of one of the lady sparrows loitering on our balcony. They are really very lovely when you look closely.
