Okay, so I got super nostalgic and decided to make a thread of my favourite childhood hobbies/memories. Starting with visits to Bessie Beach on the first day of summer vacations and running around pointlessly and apdiye having dinner at Murugan Idly. Bliss.
Sunday visits to ECR - the Madras Crocodile Bank, ECR Dhaba(this place had Emus, damn cool), Go Karting/ATV racing, and closing with evening/night show movie at Mayajaal(one of the OGs)
The every once in a while India match at Chepauk before the IPL, and CSK matches in Chepauk. CSK lost every game I went to, until 2012 when Albie Morkel senjufied King Kohli(miss you albie). And the last time I went was in 2015 where they won both matches.
Watching Steve Irwin, Lollu Sabha, Power Rangers SPD, Dino Thunder, Ninja Storm and Time Force, Kick Buttowski, Kid vs Kat, Phineas and Ferb and the evergreen Tom and Jerry.
Disney Channel had some pretty great shows too - Dhoom Machao Dhoom, Recess, Wizards of Waverly Place, Kya Mast Hai Life and Ishaan. This would evolve into Netflix teen dramas.
Visits to the two OG malls before the rest started popping up - Chennai Citi Center and Spencer's Plaza. The EA-Phoenix-Forum generation will never know what these places meant to us. (Also skywalk was a cool atti until EA showed up, rip skywalk)
Having 'mp3' players aka middle class iPod and pocket radios because smartphones and Spotify weren't a thing.
Owning a PSP and flexing in front of your friends by carrying it around with you everywhere(which eventually lead to a lot of people kannu vechufying and it dying. RIP PSP)
Rushing to catch the Diwlali/ Pongal releases in the theatres because you know it wont be on Prime in a month, and you had no clue when it would be on TV. (Sivaji released in 2007 and was aired for the first time during new year 2012 afaik, I could be wrong)
Being excited as fuck when the McDonalds was opened first at Ascendas and making dad do inter-city travel just so i could get a burger with a toy
Driving down to the airport to receive NRI return relatives and watch them give build up like Sivaji Rajinikanth. I live with the hope of ruining one America maapilai's wedding like every Tamil cinema hero ever(preferably my second cousin's, tha saavu da)
