Earlier this week the @CMSboard voted on emergency leave benefits for @CharMeckSchools hourly workers affected by #COVID19. This adds to federal + state emergency benefits our employees. More details here: https://www.facebook.com/120392678041894/posts/2836926289721839/?d=n
/ We’ve been advocating for the resources and flexibility to give @CharMeckSchools employees as much support as we can in this time of #COVID19. All CMS employees - including hourly workers, including teachers, including everyone - deserve this level of support.
/ Local school boards in NC don’t have our own means of revenue. We rely on funding from the federal, state, and county government. So that’s who we've been advocating to. Our funding partners!
/ The federal government came thru with 2 sets of expanded leave benefits. The state authorized a generous leave policy (thank you @edstateboard_nc!).
/ On the local level, we found funds to offer up to 80 hours of fully paid leave for qualifying reasons for our hourly workers. (Thanks @MeckCounty for understanding we need flexibility to use county funds in this manner, even tho it was not in our original budget.)
/ Employees, you should be able to get all the info you need here: https://www.cms.k12.nc.us/cmsdepartments/humanresources/Pages/Emergency-Leave.aspx. And if you have more questions, you can call 1-877-401-6390 to speak with a benefits representative.
/ I know that those of you who need to use this leave will do so. You need to take care of yourselves, and your families.

I also know that many of you will continue to show up to work even as the pandemic grows.
/ Our children are relying on @CharMeckSchools employees – on you, on us – for meals, and for learning, and to make sure our buildings are in good shape when it’s time to return to school. Our kids need us now more than ever.
/ So for everyone who is willing and able to keep showing up for our kids, I salute your courage, I salute your commitment, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We have a lot of real life heroes in @CharMeckSchools right now.
/ You guys! That was my first Twitter thread. Thank you for reading to the end. #TheEnd ❤️ 🍎 ❤️
