give your kids access to every possible type of bad childhood so that they have a Reason To Fight

as a Bonus can you imagine the pain that kids would have knowing their parents put them through it?

the trick is in figuring out the exact level of hardship to put kids through so theyre motivated but not horribly traumatized

okay so you have to make sure that kids can meaningfully improve their meagre lot in life

in a positive-sum fashion, so the kids dont go full ya dystopia novel

the methods for improvement should be non-obvious, so the kids have grit and cunning
