First off, I just wanna say that I don't think anyone was expecting cipher to just be casually announced that it was gonna be discontinued. I certainly wasn't and clearly it's hitting me hard than I had initially thought. I just have this really empty feeling inside me.
Now, I haven't played cipher and haven't even purchased any of the cards. This is mostly due to the fact it was never localized after all the years it's been running. I don't know why IS hasn't done this since I feel it would atleast do well enough to hold its own in the west.
Still, despite that, I have been following accounts dedicated to showcasing the latest news and entries in regards and it was always a joy seeing the new art that was revealed. Characters who a lot of people, including myself would sleep on would get new art and it was great!
That's what I enjoyed about cipher. Characters whose appearance in Feh is uncertain at best would have artwork be made for them. Scenarios, events, and little nods to the games would be shown in this art as well. These spectacles are things Feh just can't capture the same way.
Lastly, cipher gave the chance for favs of mine to be given to artists that I didn't expect or even have heard of. Yet seeing their takes left me in awe. Seeing how their styles differ from those who've drawn them previously. This artwork only made me love them more.
It's... heartbreaking honestly. I admit that I have taken cipher for granted. But it really is true that you don't know what you got till it's gone. I know it isn't over yet, but knowing the fateful time of when it will end leaves me feeling hollow.
It really is a shame that IS no longer sees the worth in cipher anymore and have decided to solely rely on Feh for content inbetween releases. I definitely feel it shouldn't be this way. I believe both can co exist. But they don't feel the same way anymore.
I'm sorry if after reading this thread it really soured your mood. This is just my way of expressing how I feel about this whole thing as well as to give thanks to cipher for what it has done. I really am going to miss it, but I'll hold tight to my heart. Atleast I owe it that.
