I am avoiding writing an essay and rereading hunger games trilogy. Just started book 2. Here are all of my opinions thus far, which no one asked for or even remotely wants
1. The story itself holds up really well, I was still drawn in. However the writing style grinds my gears at times
2. I& #39;m finding it hard to believe that in 74 years no other tributes tried the lovers angle but w/e I& #39;ll take it
3. The films did us absolutely DIRTY when they casted a bunch of 20smthns. Katniss is barely SIXTEEN. That is a baby. Watching a bunch of halfway through puberty 16 yr olds kill each other on screen prolly woulda been too horrifying to get to theatres 1/2
3. (Cont) like seriously picture what you looked and acted like at 15/16 think abt how you thot and felt and what u cared about at 15/16. That& #39;s baby if I& #39;ve ever heard it. 2/2
4. All this baby-ness aside, I do know that teens are horny. Theres no way some of the older tributes wouldnt have fucked, with their deaths right around the corner
5. What are the populations in the district like? Panem covers most of current North America, theres only 12 (13) districts, they must be huge. How could they possibly have reapings in each district all take place in just one spot? Like unless parts of the continent are just 1/2
5. (Cont) completely uninhabited, and the districts are closer to the size of cities rather than states or provinces, still I need some population density data 2/2
6. Im circling back to my baby point for a sec: I remember not liking katniss when I first read the books (age 12ish) bc 16 seemed so grown up but she was rly rash at times. Now I& #39;m like omg bb you have every right to hate everything and everyone around u, pls take care of urself
7. Ok Im almost done catching fire and the entire plot is basically just that scene in endgame when Natasha and Clint are both trying to throw themselves over the edge to save the other except its peeta and katniss doing everything they can to guilt the other into being victor
8. Okay catching fire is done. First take is that peeta has done literally nothing wrong. Any adverse effects of his actions were 100% not his fault and I will die on this hill
9. I know they didnt wanna tell katniss/peeta about the rebel plot but like, maybe they coulda let on a little harder on the plan to break them out? Maybe more of them woulda made it if they& #39;d known??? Idk
10. Do gender roles exist in Panem?? Im genuinely unsure. Like women go into the mines in 12, & in general it seems like men and women are treated p equal with maybe a few exceptions, but phrases like "ladies first" are still in use. Is it just a linguistic carryover? Idk
11. The fuck happened to earth in this timeline. Do other countries exist? Is Panem all of north america or just the US. Is canada just chilling a couple km north of the hunger games like "hm well that& #39;s not any of MY business" I find that hard to believe bc katniss talks abt 1/2
11. (Cont) talks abt getting maple syrup from the woods w her dad, idk how far south u can grow a maple tree but i imagine the climate would not work that far from current canada, so I guess there wouldnt be a completely independent nation just north of panem 2/2
12. So if there isnt a canada what about the other continents? Do the ppl of panem know that other continents exist? Or has history been so erased that only the elite have any idea of the globe
13. Are Panemians(?) Flat earthers
