So, I've just been ruminating about all of #highereducation moving to #onlinelearning after reading the Teaching newsletter from @becksup this morning. The struggle to reproduce your typical 80-minute class meeting through a video-conference is real.
Got me thinking about some survey data I have been doing with the online courses I teach, and thought this might be a good time to share. I asked masters students to rate 18 learning activities we did in my Psychosocial Bases of Coaching course. How well did Zoom meetings rate?
Zoom was middle of the pack.

Turns out students really benefited from:
1. Video lectures (2.75 out of 3)
2. Reading my feedback (2.57 out of 3)
3. Having an independent meeting with me (2.56 out of 3)
Summary: students learn when I have good video lecture content and can give them the specific attention they need.

That is incredibly resource-intensive.
