Welp some folks just really hurt theirs and everyone else's business https://twitter.com/Newsarama/status/1245836381038862337
I'm probably going to lose some friends for saying this, but the ComicHub solution was a smart one.

It could have made a difference and created a return to a kind of normalcy.

As a reader, I want physical books ten times out of ten. I'd have still been able to get them this way
As a creator, the current state of the industry worries me. Who can accept a pitch when Diamond isn't distributing?

I have a decent job. I'm still working now, because I work in healthcare. I'll be able to work around this and produce books. A lot of folks won't.
As a friend to folks who work in comic stores, I'm worried. I'm worried for their businesses and livelihoods.

I'm worried that the direct market, however flawed, will be damaged by these exceptional circumstances.
Let me expand on that: my LCS often jokes that they'd make as much if they just sold Batman and Marvel, and some toys. They WANT to take a chance on new books and smaller publishers. They WANT to push the industry forward.

Will they be able to afford to after the pandemic?
Sure making digital copies available alongside the physical ones is scary. It's a risk. So is most business. And you know what? It's better than doing nothing. A lot better.
If you think COVID-19 is going to pass in 2 week, or even 2 months, you're dreaming.

Comics needs a solution to keep stores alive and healthy so we all have an industry to return to. This could have been a step on that path.
Look this won't be the end of comics. Obviously. Comics are a resilient medium. They'll find a way to go on, they'll find a way to thrive, but I'm saddened to see the industry I love so resistant to any form of change.
Fuckit. Find a way to support your LCS friends. Just do it. If you CAN prepay for some of your books, or books you want when they open again, do it. If you can arrange postal delivery, go for it.

Me? I've an app and a catalogue to browse. My LCS is getting an order this weekend.
