If you came of age as a lawyer in the period 1975-1995, you were in the golden age of long lunches, spousal business class travel (minimum), perhaps the fax machine, no email, no widespread mobile phones, and clients who, even in recessions, did not check bills all that closely https://twitter.com/ABAJournal/status/1245829377620955138
Also, you listened to your father & other 'elders' stories of professional practices & esp in resources, are much more interesting than yours...."Well, yes, struggled to book flights out of Tehran as the Crazies arrived - you have to realise First Class cabins were smaller then"
"So, Dad, how did Mum and you get out of [insert] when there was a [coup/uprising/repression] going on?"

"This very helpful person who our Senior Partner knew from the CBI theatre during the War. He said he worked for some airline called Air America. Had a case of Glenfiddich"
"When I was your age, my primary matter involved a tax planning arrangement awaiting the Privy Council's blessing involving Singapore, the Netherlands Antilles, and some shady Germans living in Nasser's Egypt. What are you working on?"
"Proofing a prospectus, actually".
"Hmmm"
Young lawyers & ors have been robbed of their inheritance. The Boomers had the WW2 generation, who were often maniacs, but more usually benevolent dictators. The Boomers came in, trashed the profession's ethics, and robbed the youth via timesheets and managerialism of actual law
