It is best to slowly release information as the pandemic progresses. We all need to adapt psychologically to the reality that these numbers will show. Put them out too early in an official sense & people will either a) panic or b) think you are full of hyperbole.

The truth is that the numbers are indeed quite huge but also that we will get through this relatively unscathed in comparison to most of the world.

The big numbers are not hyperbole but they could absolutely be panic-worthy if you don’t have the bigger perspective.
That and all this modelling is based on dozens, hundreds of variables that are all uncertain and which contain inter-related moving parts.
Given all that uncertainty, I don’t see how it is helpful to release a worst case scenario that could only serve to encourage itself in becoming self-fulfilling.
All that matters:

Stay home, wash your hands, wear a mask, and thank your healthcare workers.

Most importantly: support the public healthcare system that is providing one of the best, most equitable public health responses in the world. We need to fortify it, not abandon it.
