Propaganda Says: In the past we all grew our own food, made our own clothes, & our jobs today give us freedom. No one took care of the disabled coz survival of the fittest.

Truth: This answer is directly about the Western World/colonial propaganda.

Our ancestors took care of everyone. It's a relatively new thing we don't take care of our people, & its directly caused by the often repeated but not understood "survival of the fittest"

Survival of the fittest means your kids survive to have kids. That's it.
Anything else is misunderstanding at best, & repeated propaganda at worse

Cities aren't a new thing. Farming is hard work & no one could be a full time farmer plus a full time blacksmith/teacher/maid. Things overlapped, but this didn't mean they did everything themselves.
Most people only had one or two outfits that lasted their whole life. Women mended clothes that broke. They updated the clothes if they were in the upper classes. As girls they would learn to sew & all those projects would be their clothing/bedspreads/etc as wives.
Fun bonus fact: it used to be a bride would create her own wedding dress & that'd also be her funeral dress. (This is only England, but I might be remembering wrong)

Our jobs today give us freedom

This statement was true in the 1950's & only for white, straight men.
In the past men had women do all the housework while the men did the jobs they were either born into or became apprentices in. The higher up the classes you went the less actual work was done.
1950-60ish changed this for white, straight, cis men

They suddenly had jobs that paid well along with the traditional women who did all the domestic work. White, straight, cis men could save up money for vacations/large purchases.
Everyone else didn't have this privlege. This thread & medium can't even begin to cover the racist & sexist layers that prevented, & still prevent, people from freedom. There isn't enough time or space in a tweet thread for something that can fill a library.

Our modern jobs aren't healthy. There's no way around this. Before once you off the clock your time was your own. Even back to the serfs. No longer. We are expected to be available 24/7. Wage theft is still rampant.
Minimum wage doesn't pay for basic living expenses, forget anything about freedom to do what we want. To add more insult min wage jobs are the jobs that are essential to society yet are paid below a living wage.
5

We are working longer hours for less pay & less days off. Even back to the days of peasants workers had festivals, holy days, feasts, & depending on the religion, at least one day a week you could rest.
Modern day we don't get sick days. You'd get laughed at for wanting to take a holiday off. Fired if you insisted. True, our ancestors didn't get sick days, but they also had a community to work with. Often we are alone in a job that doesn't even have to be a thing.
6

Many modern jobs don't even pay anymore. They're for "exposure", or "experience".

Conclusion: modern jobs aren't for our freedom. They're to make sure we are too busy to demand basic human rights, like a UBI.
