At the core of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is the Actualizing Tendency (also known as Self-Actualization).

SDT attempts to specify the conditions that support the Actualizing Tendency.

Carl Rogers’ Person-Centered Therapy also attempts to do this.

So does Democracy.
The example of Democracy, above, is Dewey’s notion of Creative Democracy, which seems to represent well the vision outlined in the Declaration of Independence.

At the core of “politics” & thus education, in the U.S., is the support of the Actualizing Tendency.

But...
But... is this how “politics” tends to work? Is this how public education tends to work?

Look at the conditions outlined in SDT and PCT in the original tweet. Does school provide those conditions? Eh, not very well.

But School, to make Democracy more possible, needs to!!
