It’s really crazy how much I’ve grown with Tyler’s albums. I was 13 when Wolf Dropped and hearing it today definitely screams 13 year old me. So much energy, scrambled everywhere, but still carefree. Whew...
Since it’s Wolf’s anniversary here’s my top 5 from the album. I’ll follow up with a thread on why:
1. Treehome95
2. 48
3. Colossus
4. Awkward
5. Lone
Treehome95: Soooo, at one point, this was all I listened to. If I had 10 songs to listen to for the rest of life, it would be one of them.
I personally love when Tyler does simple jazzy stuff. But this introduced me to Coco from Quadron, an alternative gem. And ofc Erykah. WHEW
48: When this album dropped it was so sunny out and all I did was walk with my headphones in and got ice cream after school. This beat feels like that.
Also the message, he’s talking about fame as a drug. He got more comfortable with addressing these realities.
Colossus: Honestly this is one of my faves because it’s Tyler’s message to his superfans. Fans can be a lot sometimes, and as much as we love and adore our faves, they’re human. They need space. They just wanna get on a rollercoaster.
I still know this whole thing to this day.
Awkward: Chileeee, I wanted a love story like awkward 🥺. I remember this leaked on a Tyler mix and I ran it back all the time.
But really this was one of Tyler’s love songs merging out of his dark material. Wolf’s still a bit dark, but commercial enough. Still slaps...
Lone: If you know, I have a love for how Tyler ends his projects and his vulnerability. Wolf was really the start of his opening up, and Lone adds to this. His reality was changing and the whole Wolf story is a metaphor for that. I love him for that.
So to end this thread, Wolf changed a lot for Tyler and has fans and fanbase. This dropped at a pretty important time in my life, and even though it’s my number 1 Tyler project, it did a lot for me. 11-13 year old me is living for it rn. Waiting on the Wolf film to this day 😂
