All the swear words in all the languages still wouldn't be enough to convey my thoughts about $300 a month from BC NDP for disabled poor people.

Did you know it costs LESS to live as a disabled person during a pandemic than it does for a non-disabled person?

Me neither.
When Ontario did its Basic Income experiment disabled ppl on it received $500 more a month than the non-disabled ppl. This was not during a pandemic. But even in regular non-pandemic times it was understood disabled people's costs are higher.

Apparently opposite is true in BC.
I am being deliberately restrained in this thread in the (probably pointless) hope that non-disabled people reading will understand this isn't my personal opinion, it is a well-documented fact that it costs *more* to survive as a disabled person.
In a non-pandemic it costs more for a variety of reasons, including the general inaccessibility and lack of supporting infrastructure to live as a disabled person in an ableist society, additional healthcare related costs (bc our system is not in fact universal), equipment, etc.
None of those additional costs go away during a pandemic - they increase. This is particularly rough time for those with specific dietary needs for example. Their best hope of ensuring ongoing supply of their essentials would be bulk order - since ableds keep buying everything
Evidence doesn't support the amount the BC NDP announced.
Common sense doesn't support it.
Compassion doesn't support it.
Human rights doesn't support it.
So what does?

I'll let you answer that yourself.
The contradiction in this is that on the one hand the govt keeps telling people to stay at home. In order to do that you require the things you need to live to be in place at your home.

I keep telling you all that without the support of all of you I couldn't. It's true.
If I did not have additional funds from some of you on here than I would not be ordering from Spud.

So by putting the amount as LESS THAN what is understood for non-disabled people to survive on CERB, it's fair to question whether they want us to even be safe or saved.
We are talking about the segment of the population that their ethical decision-making guidelines will make utilitarian calls to let die when the number of vents is less than the number of people who need vents.

Our *BEST* hope by far is by staying 100% self-isolated inside.
Between the virus and the ableism around the virus, it is essential that disabled people at high risk be able to self-isolate.

That is fact.

In order to do so it is necessary the funding and certain support policies be in place for them to do so. They are not.

That is fact.
My normal supply chain:
Save-On for large items (on sale) and other things at good sale price. Delivered.
No Frills, produce mart, Dollar Store(s) - different ones, London Drugs, Shoppers, Indie pharmacy - for everything else based on sales.
My pandemic supply chain:
At outset: Walmart, Save-on (haven't been able to get Walmart slot since week one).
Now: Spud, Stong's, London Drugs, McDonald's home health (someone's credit card), Costco (friend went), Grand & Toy (not delivered yet), Cdn Tire
And instead of one delivery a month which was my old method - and I covered the delivery costs with my 'points' on the stores point system.

I now *attempt* multiple deliveries a week. Each time I pay a full delivery fee & maybe get 20% of what I ordered - or one item - or none.
My costs have shot through the roof and REMINDER here please - I DIDN'T have enough to live on to start with.

I have survived all these years because of a friends periodically sending groceries as gifts. HUGE chunk of my monthly income goes to bowel meds that aren't covered.
By not providing disabled poor people with the policies and funding necessary to self-isolate, the BC NDP is setting up a scenario in which disabled people will die. They will die because of the virus and more will die because of allocation of resources - they won't get vents.
I have laid out the facts.
In order to disprove that the BC NDP's policies will not be responsible for putting disabled lives at risk of death you have to argue with the facts and the facts do not care about your feelings or your party loyalties. They are facts.
