1. Many people who deliver services and supports to vulnerable Torontonians are being asked to work in unsafe conditions. This is happening because the Province has excluded them from the list of workers who receive personal protective equipment.
2. I chair a task force of City staff, the Toronto Police, and community organizations that oversee Toronto's strategy for drugs and alcohol. This includes the opioid crisis. One week ago we decided to formally ask the Province to expand the availability of protective equipment.
3. Specifically, we want equipment for people who work in shelters, harm reduction program, drop-ins, meal programs, consumption and treatment services, and overdose prevention sites.
4. This is urgent. Every day this is not deal;t with puts lives at risk. My letter:
