Baker: Latest models show between 47k and 172k cases in MA, with a peak between April 10-20.
Baker: Mass will likely need at least 500 more ICU beds and 1,000 acute-care beds. Worcester DCU field hospital will have 250 of those acute-care beds.
State has hired contractor to build additional field-hospital beds, likely at South Boston convention center, Joint Base Cape Cod and Mass Mutual building (Springfield?).
Baker praises Chinese UN ambassador, among others, for helping to arrange that shipment of N95 masks. Mass. masks should arrive at Logan later today. NYC and RI will also get part of the shipments. In total, MA will get roughly 1M masks.
Baker: "The Krafts were terrific, they were a phone call away" and helped arrange the logistics. But the need for PPE doesn't end.
Sutters: By Monday, Partners Healthcare will have an N95 decontamination system in place at vacant Somerville KMart that will be able to sterilize 80,000 N95 masks a day. N95 masks can be run through the system up to 5 times.
Sutters: 78 of state's 700 nursing homes and similar facilities now have Covid-19 outbreaks.
9 residents at Chelsea Soldiers Home tested positive. Since March 1, 2 residents have died. 7 staffers have tested positive.
Sutters: "We've not yet received any ventilators" from the feds. How long ago was it Baker said the feds agreed to give us 1,000? In any case, MA has now increased its request to 1,400 ventilators.
Baker: Started calling "everybody I could think of" how to get masks after 3 million masks MA had "lost" to the feds in the port of New York to try to get more masks. Those masks had been ordered through BJ's, then the feds seized them.
Baker said he called Jonathan Kraft with idea of treating Chinese mask purchase as "private humanitarian mission" to keep the feds from finding out. Ambassador Wong (Chinese UN ambassador) was "incredibly important" in arranging the deal and shipment.
Sutters: State will post lists of who is getting the masks. Decisions will be made based on immediate Covid-19 and shortages - goal is to try to give "facilities in need" at least a 7-day supply.
Baker: Governor of Alaska helped with the mask shipment, arranging for the plane to land there so the crew could rest.
