Our pandemic response has been driven by one principle, the principle driving American Capitalism: God forbid people get anything for free. God forbid we shut down the non-essential economy for two weeks & ride this out. God forbid we give people a living wage on unemployment 1/

God forbid we deliver groceries & essential so people can stay home & not infect anyone. God forbid people are "off" for two weeks so we can stop this pandemic. Got forbid we open the Obamacare exchanges. God forbid we order more ventilators than we need. 2/

The GOP, evangelicalism, protestant work ethic, are not driven by data or logic (what are the long-term costs of a slow & uneven response to the pandemic). They are about the billionaires, who got wealthy by scamming, preventing the rest of us from getting in on the "scam" 3/

Our country is driven by the principal of oppressing. Toiling for the sake of toiling.

Remember that during the Holocaust, they had humans carrying rocks up stairs at the quarries. It's not about profit. It's about people with power, exercising the power to oppress. 4/

Keep in mind, this response risks the lives of everyone: doctors, government, even Blankfein. They are risking their safety on the gamble that they can insulate themselves from the virus (they're wrong). God forbid we receive anything for free. Their world would crumble 5/5
