A thread on Ymir Freckles. A character that i don't talk about often and consider underrated.
I never really paid attention to Ymir's character apart from her flirting with Hisu every chance she got in s1. When i really found her interesting was here in s2, she was mysterious in a way and i was intrigued
Then there's this another moment of interaction between Ymir and Krista. Ymir tries to console her that she isn't here for her but for her own reasons, Krista asks this in the first place cause she thinks Ymir is like her, trying to do a good deed. (Ymir is also gay asf for her)
There's 2 ways to intrepret this: Ymir cares about Connie and isn't the selfish person she claims to be or she has already regained all her memories and is feeling sympathy for Reiner and Bert so she derails the conversation
Episode 5 is one of my fave episodes(i dont think i really have to add anything for this except). Ymir's arc also ties with the main theme our MC goes by. "Because I was born into this world". Ymir isn't going to spend her second life being caged and living for other's happiness
Ymir's arc is already completed here. She right now in this moment is truly living her life. Making her own decisions, in her first life she was barely living at all.
Part of Historia's development begins from this scene. This was also the first time Ymir was content with how she was living and smiles when she is able to push Historia to do the same even if it as little as Hisu telling her her real name.
Ymir is also an excellent judge of character when it came to people, it's almost like she is a mind reader and its one of her titan's powers. She sees thru everyone's motivations pretty fast and is able to exploit them to her gain.
Her journey is like the same narrative Isayama had for Erwin, in the end Ymir/Erwin gave up seeing the basement/being with Hisu cause she knew the Warriors situation. She didn't want to live with the regret of not having helped Reiner and Bert when it was them who granted-
this second chance at life. Just like how Erwin woud've regretted seeing the basement by sending soldiers to their deaths. It's a great paralled between Bert too. Ymir and Erwin died on their own terms. Like Heroes. They chose how they went out and are the ONLY two characters-
-in the entirety of aot who did that as of now. Compare that with Bert and he regretted it in the end, he screams for his friends for help knowing that he's doing this too late.
This is my fave moment of her. She feels acccomplished with her life here. Sure she didn't get to marry Hisu but the being a goddess line indicates that she truly lived a life with no regrets
All of us know how Ymir's words later greatly influence Hisu leading her to fucking JUDO FLIPPING her father and saving Eren's ass. You could say that Ymir without ever being present has a flat arc she develops Historia
