Been reading about the unprecedented unemployment filings the last two weeks, companies firing WFH employees over pre-recorded Zoom calls, huge companies cutting 401K contributions and other benefits — and I just wanted to talk about Autostraddle's COVID19 response for a sec.
For full-time employees (which includes me). We have 70% company-funded healthcare already, and now:

1. As much paid sick leave as needed if sick with COVID or taking care of friends or family members.

2. Flexible working hours to manage physical and mental health.
For freelancers (this is unprecedented):

1. Paid sick leave that is equal to the # of posts they would have written that month if they weren't sick/taking care of sick friends/family.

2. $10K no-strings-attached writer relief fund for our freelancers who have lost other work.
3. Providing as much extra work as possible to our freelance writers and artists.

4. A small raise in per-post rates.

Also, we ALWAYS pay on time. Always.
When the economy was thriving, queer media was struggling to survive. In the coming months, it's going to be harder than ever for us to make it. Right now, like even enormous media companies, we're trying to raise funds to stay afloat.
We have $23K in matching funds if we are able to raise $50K, and our ultimate goal is $100K. We absolutely need that money to stay alive. If you're able to donate to Autostraddle right now or join A+, you'd be doing a huge service to the LGBTQ community. https://www.autostraddle.biz/
