Spoke to a frontline doctor friend here in nyc who is dealing with dozens of covid patients, has been for weeks. I asked about chloroquine, he said his patients are currently on the protocol-

He prefaced to me this is anecdotal and too early, here’s what he said:
Some patients do seem to improve in response to chloroquine, but they tend to be on the healthier side when they come to the ER. It’s very difficult to know if it’s the chloro or their immune system (this is why clinical trial setting would yield better data) does it

However-
Many patients are coming into the hospital already in very rapidly deteriorating condition. Some die before there could be any real expectation that chloro could do much to suppress viral load. Remember, there is no specific covid dosage or duration protocol yet, it’s ad hoc
All of this had to be shared without attribution, because some hospitals are getting very aggressive with any staff speaking to press without official clearance. This doc told me that even complaining publicly about PPE shortages at some hospitals can get you fired.
