In these football-starved times, that's probably a lot of you...
But what’s real and what’s fake? We run through every team featured in the series!
Darwen
The original mill team that the Scottish stars of the series transfer, becoming England’s first ‘professional’ players did really exist. They even entered early editions of the EFL, dropping out of the football league in 1899 and remain in regional football to this day.

Partick
Mentioned as the side from which Darwen’s two Scotsman, Fergus Suter and Jimmy Love transfer – they were also a real side.
Partick ran out of gas in 1885 and were superseded by local rivals Partick Thistle. Now home to the greatest mascot in world football.

Old Etonians
Boooo! The antiheroes representing the alumni of posh boarding school Eton, were indeed one of the big boys of early English football.
Won the FA Cup twice in the 1880s and still exist in amateur park football.

Old Carthusians and Old Harrovians
Other elite sides from Charterhouse and Harrow schools get passing mentions in the series. Both teams are real, and still operate as amateurs.
Our English member of staff even lost a big Cup semi-final against the toffs of Carthusians.

Blackburn
Fake news! There were two Blackburn teams synonymous with success in the early FA Cup. Blackburn Olympic are the side who actually beat the Old Etonians (spoiler alert, the 1883 final!) but it's Blackburn Rovers who the series hero, Fergus Suter actually played for.

Sheffield
Once enticed from Darwen to ‘Blackburn’, Suter meets a new teammate – Jack Hunter, the England international who’s moved from Sheffield. Only he didn’t play for the Sheffield side known as the oldest football club still operating. Hunter played for Sheffield Heeley.

If you've watched the series, what did you make of it!?

Honourable mentions...
Brigg - cannon fodder but still exist as Brigg Town aka The Zebras.
Derby St. Lukes - church side who beat Darwen when Suter turns up hungover. We've all been there!
Druids - 1st Welsh club ever in the Cup, can be traced to Welsh Prem side, Cefn Druids.
