last night I was talking to one of my residents and she looked at me and said “ever since I met you, I’ve loved you. You always speak as if if there’s hope and love in every moment of the day and it makes me want to hold on until I can see [my daughter] again.”
This is coming from a lady who doesn’t remember much so regardless of her level of understanding, this absolutely meant the world to me.
My favorite thing to do is as I’m tucking them in for bed, I tell them I love them so they fall asleep feeling loved.
My job is more than feeding them, cleaning them, etc. My job is giving them love in the absence of their family, especially in a time like this where they’ve gone weeks without a hug from their loved ones.
This is why I do what I do. And I wasn’t actually going to take this thread in this direction but I feel like it’s warranted.
For the love of God. STAY HOME. So that I don’t fear that I’m going to carry COVID-19 in to my vulnerable residents but more importantly so we can get this over with and reunite them with their families.
