An always-remarkable-to-behold transition is occurring in the strengthening storm well offshore New England - a discernible center has developed & the storm's core is starting to warm. A warm core is typical of tropical systems, so this is often a signal of a hybrid creature.
What this means for New England is unchanged from the forecast you've seen on @nbc10boston and @necn this morning - this hybrid transition was forecast and expected, it's just always breathtaking, at least to Yours Truly.
Today's rain pattern has been somewhat of patchwork, as a "downsloping," drying northwest wind at the surface does battle with the ocean moisture in the middle levels of the atmosphere, but in the end, the moisture will win out, particularly when the surface wind shifts.
Heavier rain ramps up in New England this eve, lasting through tonight and Friday with over an inch expected in Eastern New England. Winds will increase along the coast, gusting to 50 mph on Cape Cod...minor coastal flooding from the NH Seacoast south Fri AM, moderate Nantucket.
