It’s #WorldAutismAwarenessDay and many are innocently trying to support autistic people by doing things we find offensive.

Why?

Because for too long non autistic ppl have dominated the discourse.

Please don’t #LightItUpBlue, support autism speaks, use PFL or puzzle pieces.
This image may seem cute to you, but it’s very patronizing and offensive to autistic people. First, most autistic people are not children, but most importantly:

We are not broken.

We aren’t missing a piece.

We are whole.

#WorldAutismAwarenessDay #AutismAcceptance
If you need to play semantics to remember we are people, please don’t make that our problem.

Person first language is inherently stigmatizing as its only use for attributes we see negatively.

Nobody says person with intelligence.

#WorldAutismAwarenessDay #AutismAcceptance
The greatest gift you can give an autistic person today is acceptance of who they are.
