"Can I call?" was what the screen showed Tsukishima.
It's been about two months since he and Kageyama have seen each other, what with work putting the latter of the two in different countries. They were both used to do the distance and making do with just messaging each other not even everyday because they were both busy,
but today was different somehow. They had been talking since the sun set and now the night was bordering into morning. Whatever they talked about in those hours was something that the both of them would forget eventually, but they treasure those few hours nonetheless.
The topic of their conversation had died and Tsukishima was running out of things to talk about. He didn't want to end the conversation, though, he wanted to continue talking to Kageyama, but he didn't want things to sound too forced. Somehow, even after three years of being
together, he still found it difficult to engage in conversation with his boyfriend, but who could blame him? The king was never one for small talk.

He was in the middle of typing out a "good night" when another message from Kageyama appeared—"can i call?" it said.
Which was weird, and definitely surprising to Tsukishima. They rarely call each other, and when they do, it's usually for little emergencies; "we're out of toilet paper", "can you buy me curry on your way home", "where's the cat food", and such, so it made
Tsukishima worry a little.

"Is something wrong?"

"No, I" Kageyama takes a while to type, the three dots jumping up and down on the screen fuelling Tsukishima's rising anxiety.
"I just miss you."

Oh, God, the things Tsukishima would do to be right next to Kageyama at this very moment.
There was something about the way the king said it so bluntly, so simply that made it all the more special. Of course that's how his train of thought went; "I miss Kei so I should ask him if I can call so I can hear his voice."
Tsukishima would never think to ask him like that, not once in a million years, because for him, it was a matter of pride.

Instead of responding, Tsukishima calls Kageyama's phone and waits. As soon as he picks up, a smile forms on Tsukishima's face.
"Hey, king," he says, and there was a dryness in his voice that scratched his throat just the way he knew Kageyama liked it. "I miss you, too."
