Here's a handy hint for those working at home for the first time. When i stopped working in Oxford to be home-based (Walsall), to recreate the experience of the transition from home to work I sat in a cardboard box for 2.5 hours before beginning my day. For fuck's sake.
Oh and also because a routine is so important, every day before starting work i put my pyjamas on.
Really, is anyone else getting slightly worn down by all the advice by all the people telling us about how they're maintaining a positive attitude by adhering to the pointless things we used to do in f2f jobs?
I worked at home when i was an educational consultant for about 10 years on and off and I did just fine climbing out of bed after a couple of coffees, walking to my sofa and just working. Making a bigger deal of it than it is, is just making it all more stressful for all of us.
We don't really need to hear how effectively you're working in this new climate. Take it from someone who's been doing this for a long time, you'll do perfectly well enough just muddling on through.
