'Where America Didn’t Stay Home' https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/02/us/coronavirus-social-distancing.html "The location data, from Cuebiq, a data intelligence firm, measures the range that people travel each day."<Cuebiq advises "We only process de-identified data from users who’ve opted in to sharing their location" 🤔
Opted-in .🤔 Here are some ways you can opt-out .. 🤔 You can even opt-out by downloading their own app ... that has GOOGLE ADS and GOOGLE DOUBLECLICK embedded. You couldn't make this up

Now. what about the privacy policy for that app .. let's take. quick peek eh ...
Cuebiq provides "online and mobile advertising and data services (the “Services,” as further defined below) to mobile application publishers (“Publishers”), advertisers (“Advertisers”), and partners (“Partners”).

#AdTechSurveillance https://www.cuebiq.com/privacypolicy/
"we may automatically collect technical information"

Technical information about your Device includes, but is not limited to: device type, operating system, settings & system configurations, IP address, Device ID & other unique Device identifiers, and mobile network information
"Analytics may be correlated with your Personal Data (as defined by the [GDPR]: data that identifies or can identify a particular unique user or device – for instance, names, addresses, cookie identifiers, mobile device identifiers, precise location data and biometric data) but
not shared with any third parties."
"Cuebiq offers a location intelligence platform that provides marketers location-based, AI-driven analytics & measurement to map & measure the consumer journey, helping marketers answer strategic questions & make the right decisions in order to influence consumers ...
through the sales funnel." <funnel eh.

"We collect and process device identified data from users who CONSENT to location data sharing via our partners apps for purposes related to advertising, attribution, analytics and research" [MY EMPHASIS]
SO CONSENT. Via partners apps. Ok, does the privacy policy list those partners? No. But oh my #DataVampires looksee .... there's a link that takes you 'Data Partners' 'Third Party Ad Platforms' and 'Data Feed Partners'.

Well howdy pardners! Those #DataVampires gonna go crazy
Again, "We collect and process device identified data from users who consent to location data sharing via our partners apps for purposes related to advertising, attribution, analytics and research." So how is consent secured wrt those partners? what oversight and checks are made
👀 "Cuebiq may receive non-app user data through public data sources or data partners who aggregate public, user consented psychographic & demographic data, television content & ad viewing data, or other forms of transactional data such as purchase information." oh my. consent eh
PSYCHOGRAPHIC DATA
DEMOGRAPHIC DATA
TV CONTENT & AD VIEWING DATA
TRANSACTIONAL DATA such as PURCHASE information

Apparently it's all consented. 🦄
But don't y'all worry cos that data 👆 is "used only to provide enriched views into aggregated analytics, is not used for advertising purposes, and is not shared with other partners." <Y'all are feeling much happier now. Right? They ain't gonna share it or use it for ads.
Oh. Now we're on to 'Data For Good'. Don't y'all realise they are "providing access to our location data to the scientific community in order to share our insights and create positive action in the service of humanity. "

👇
Cuebiq provides "access to anonymous, privacy-compliant location-based data for academic research and humanitarian initiatives related to human mobility." <hmmmm

What data protection & privacy laws are these standards based on? Ethics and ethics review boards etc
"Cuebiq receives .. location information either from an “SDK” (software development kit) that it provides to mobile application partners (“apps”) or from a server-to-server transfer and integration with mobile app partners .." <how's that consent working out ...
"This location information includes data points such as lat/long (latitudinal & longitudinal) data, i.e., GPS-level data, and/or WiFi data (if feasible) associated with a mobile advertising ID, such as an IDFA on iOS platforms or a Google Play Advertising ID on Android platforms"
"We use the information we collect to make inferences about what types of activities users tend to spend time doing. For instance, we may notice a particular Device frequently at locations associated with
..sports (e.g., an arena), music (e.g., a concert venue), eating out (e.g., restaurants) or health & fitness (e.g., a gym or health club). We use this information to categorize Device users into “interest segments” <hmmm ... Place of worship?
Cuebiq’s Example Audience Segments. "Cuebiq processes the data we collect directly or in partnerships in an attempt to devise areas of interest for users. " <bless its all about you (and don't forget humanity)

Spa Goers <how's that going in lock down folks? Worse places to be
Walgreens Visitor. CVS Visitor. Duane Reade Visitor. Rite Aid Visitor. The Vitamin Shoppe Visitor. Healthcare Workers. Expecting Mothers

The list is not exhaustive ;) but provides an example ... drum roll please
... "of health-related and political segments we may create and share for tailored advertising or content purposes"
Nothing to worry about here then. Nope .. oh wait .. what about that PSYCHOGRAPHIC DATA. DEMOGRAPHIC DATA. TV CONTENT & AD VIEWING DATA
TRANSACTIONAL DATA
"We may share Analytics and your Information with our Partners and other third parties " for 👇
The Exodus Privacy Tools shows Cuebiq in these apps. Difficult to know what apps its in and what partners exactly capture/share data and how consent is obtained.

The company has offices in the US, Italy and China.
