NEW. 6.6 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week. That figure smashes the record breaking numbers from the week before (3.3 million).

In other words, 3% of the US population has registered for unemployment benefit in a fortnight.
Before the last two weeks, the previous record figure was 695,000 in a week in 1982.

We’ve never seen anything like this before.
6.5% of the US workforce has registered for unemployment benefit over the last few weeks. Looks like unemployment running at 10% minimum. Speed is breathtaking.
